Genital warts (HPV) are one of the most common sexually transmitted infections and when they appear, they usually occur as small growths on the genital areas anything up to six months after initial contact or intercourse. Unfortunately, many people with HPV do not develop warts and may not be aware of their status so they could be passing on the virus to their sexual partners. Treatment coupled with building up the immune system and avoiding stress helps to limit outbreaks of this infection.

Plantar warts also caused by the same human papilloma viruses are very infectious. They are the flat-surfaced warts that usually occur on the sole of your feet and can be very tender, painful and stubborn. They are usually spread by walking bare foot in public areas such as locker rooms and showers. As with any foot infections, plantar warts should be treated straight away.

Warts, again caused by the same virus, come in various forms and affect some 75% of people at some time during their lives. This virus usually invades the skin where there has been a break, perhaps due to a minor injury such as the hands, elbows or knees. The virus is infectious and usually only affects those suffering from an immune deficiency even if that deficiency is temporary. Early treatment will mean that these warts disappear much sooner.

Molluscum Contagiosum is a viral skin infection and very contagious. It mostly affects young children, starting as tiny painless bumps that grow over several weeks to become small, raised, round and flesh colored. These bumps have a distinguishing small crater in the center. It can be very itchy. Adults can also suffer from this infection and with them it is usually a sexually transmitted infection affecting the groin and genital areas. The immune system plays a big part as many of those living with HIV will also have molluscum contagiosum. Again it is important to start treatment for this condition as quickly as possible.

Shingles is a viral infection (herpes zoster) caused by the reactivation of the dormant virus in the nerves of people who have previously had chickenpox; Again when the immune system is deficient, an outbreak of shingles can occur. It is a painful outbreak of rash or blisters on the skin usually only affecting a limited area of the skin. It is important to start a shingles treatment as soon as the first signs of shingles appear.

Post Herpetic Neuralgia is a complication of shingles when people suffer severe pain long after the shingles rash has gone. Those who suffer from PHN are often elderly and in considerable pain. This pain will gradually resolve with time though it may take months or in the very worst cases years

Acne is very common in teenagers particularly in boys and is considered a normal party of puberty. The hormone androgen stimulates the sebaceous glands of the skin to enlarge, produce oil and plug the pores. Whiteheads, blackheads, red bumps and pimples can be the result. A safe and effective acne treatment is to use a natural healing product together with drinking lots of water and a healthy diet. Teenage acne and adult acne are both very common.

Athlete’s Foot is a very common viral fungal infection that grows mostly on the feet. This infection, once it takes hold, grows and multiplies particularly in a dark, moist and warm environment. It is very contagious and may easily be picked up when walking barefoot in public places. Once diagnosed, treatment should begin immediately and such treatment should continue for at least 2 weeks after the skin has returned to normal in order to eradicate all the remaining fungal spores.

Candida is a very common fungal yeast infection. Men and women can have such a yeast infection in any part of the body such as the underarms, the nails, the mouth, the genitals and between toes. These infections usually appear in the warm and moist parts of the body. When this condition appears in the mouth or a woman’s vagina, it is often called thrush. Anal Fissures can be extremely painful when having a bowel movement and for many minutes afterwards. They are small tears or splits in the skin around the opening of the anus and are usually situated in line with the cleft of the buttocks. It is thought the main cause is constipation. If left alone an anal fissure will probably heal on its own eventually but treatment will help to heal the fissure as quickly as possible and that can only be a good thing.

Hemroids are abnormally swollen veins in the rectum and the anus and are often caused by constipation too. Other causes can be childbirth, sitting too long, diarrhea, heavy lifting as well as being overweight or obese. They are usually felt as small soft lumps at the opening of the anus, sometimes compared to a bunch of grapes. Cold Sores which are often known as fever blisters are those small sores which usually appear on and above the upper lip. Although many people wrongly believe that cold sores are as a result of a head cold, they are actually a viral infection caused by the herpes simplex virus one. This virus usually lies dormant in the nerve cells. The first sign is often a tingling sensation in the area to be affected and if treatment can be started then, the outbreak will often disappear before reaching the next stage.

Genital Herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus two and is a very infectious sexually transmitted disease spread by sexual intercourse or any form of sex. There is no cure for genital herpes but the frequency and severity of outbreaks can be reduced with treatment.
