Through the years, different trends existed in the design and content of wedding invitations. In the Victorian era, it was customary for wedding invitations to be engraved in script. Handwritten invitations on monogrammed family stationery were only acceptable for celebrations with at most fifty guests. There was a prevailing strictness with regard to the text used. Using Old English and German texts were considered an error in etiquette. The people also did not have much choice in the color of the paper to be used; white and ecru were the only available choices. But as time passed, different types of invitations were introduced. The use of contemporary and custom-made personalized invitations became widespread. Invitations now come in different colors, so the bride and the groom can give out invitations that match the wedding’s motif. Additional designs, such as ribbons and flowers add to the invitation’s pleasing appearance. For a touch of uniqueness, it is also possible for the bride and the groom to have their photo placed in the invitation. And if you are innovative enough, you could also design your own wedding invitation. Some couples also use e-mail as a wedding invitation, but at the moment, this is still not that acceptable since the invitation printed on paper is more formal, sincere, and forms a greater impact on the guests. Wedding invitations have surely undergone different trends, but from then until now, it serves as a representation of the couple’s values and reflection of their lifestyles. So, whatever style or color you prefer, just remember that nothing beats an invitation with a sincere and heartfelt content.
